Mini Whiteboards

Mini whiteboards are a type of whiteboards that are useful in the classroom. Students can write an answer on their mini whiteboards when a teacher asks a question related to the topic. Then, the students can hold them up for the teacher to see.

By providing her students a mini whiteboard, a teacher can quickly decide which of the students are still having trouble understanding the material taught. Many primary teachers also like to provide their students with white boards when they teach phonics or spelling.

Indeed, if you check the prices of mini whiteboards, you will find that they do not come cheap, especially when you need to purchase white boards for 22 to 30 students. However, with many benefits you can take from these whiteboards, you can introduce them to your classroom. Students love working on their own whiteboards; it is a great way of keeping an entire class actively involved in a lesson.  These boards are also a terrific tool for immediate feedback and assessment.

One of mini whiteboards you can find in the market is Double Sided Mobile Whiteboard Easels – Best Rite Mini Wheasel ® Magne-Rite. The Mini Wheasel ® is a petite version of the popular Wheasel ®. If you want to make the mini whiteboards by yourself, most stores will cut the panels to any size you wish – especially if you tell them the whiteboards are for classroom use. However, you should consider how you will use the whiteboards. If you are a math teacher, you might want to cut the whiteboards large enough to use for long-division problems or equations or to draw number lines. If you are a language teacher, you might want long, thin whiteboards for teaching sentence diagramming.

If you are a history teacher, you might want longer whiteboards that students can use to create time lines. Generally, most teachers find that the individual mini whiteboards that are cut to a size of 12 inches square work well.

Before you introduce mini whiteboards to your students, there are several things you should take into consideration. Firstly, you should know that the edges of cut-up whiteboard sheets can be sharp. Related to the case, many teachers use brightly colored electrical tape to cover the four edges of each board. Secondly, you will need a ready supply of dry-erase markers.

Thirdly, you should provide a ready supply of paper towels or tissues for cleaning the mini whiteboards. Many teachers have each child bring an old white sock from home. Fourthly, you should also determine in advance whether students will keep the whiteboards in their desks or in a common area of the classroom. If you keep them in a common area, students might write their names on their whiteboards at the end of each activity.
